Transforming Hearts, Conforming to Christ
Bible Studies
Ladies Bible StudyThe Ladies Bible Study meets at the church every Tuesday from 10:30 AM to noon. For the Fall & Winter Quarters, September 2012 - December 2012, we will use the book The Enemy Within: Straight Talk About the Power and Defeat of Sin by Kris Lundgaard. This book is based on two classic works by John Owen: Indwelling Sin and The Mortification of Sin. Kris Lundgaard has done an excellent job of making this information more accessible for the modern day Christian.
Babysitting is provided. Come join us for a time of Bible study, fellowship, and prayer. For more information, call the church office (281-870-0349).
Area Bible Studies (aka "The Corinthian Coffeehouse")Two area Bible studies meet on alternating weeks during the school year. In the past, we have studied the books of Philippians, Ephesians, 1&2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon & Colossians, 1&2 Thessalonians, and Galatians. For 2012/13 we are studying the book of 1 Corinthians, chapters 1-10. Lord willing, we will complete our study of 1 Corinthians chapters 11-16 during the 2013/14 school year.
The West Houston Bible study meets on alternating Tuesdays of the month (unless providentially changed) in a home located near the church. This Bible study is open to everyone. The study starts at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by dessert and coffee. The study format is informal, including teaching, discussion, and Q&A.
The Sugar Land Bible study meets on alternating Thursdays of the month (unless providentially changed) in a home located near Sugar Land. This Bible study is also open to everyone. The evening starts with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by the study at 7:30 p.m. and then dessert.
The study format is informal, including teaching, discussion, and Q&A. This is a great way to get involved in a small group and grow in faith and fellowship.

Purging the World from the Church
‘We preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.… For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve…. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.... Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body…. So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.’ (1 Cor. 1:23-24; 15:3-5; 6:11, 19-20; 10:31 ESV).
The above notes are excerpted from commentaries listed in the Schedule. They have been organized and edited together into a composite narrative, but they do not represent original material, phraseology, or ideas. I am indebted to the cited authors for their careful exegesis and explanation of the original and English texts of 1 Corinthians. DSB
